To be, rather than to seem to be...
Sounds like something Shakespeare wrote, but it's actually my sorority motto... College was so long ago that I almost forgot it.
Today's our founder's day (Delta Phi Epsilon, founded 3-17-1917 at NYU School of Law)... Happy Founders to the Delta Chapter at Hunter. The sisters that I've managed to keep in touch with (and the fraternity brothers) still remember to greet each other every year, but it's been ages since we've gone out to celebrate. The buggard is that we share the day with St. Paddy's, and we all try to avoid being out on the NYC streets like it were the plague.
This year is a little different though because Minerva, one of my favorite sisters whom we've lost contact with over the past year, called me yesterday out of the blue, bearing bad news about another sister, Priscilla. Priscilla had just celebrated her birthday on Monday, and she quietly passed away on Tuesday. It shouldn't be a surprise, because we knew about her bout with cancer a couple of years ago, but she was one of our older, stronger sisters, who always seemed to know it all (hence her nickname, NIA for "no-it-all")... She had been in remission so some of us assumed all was well. Anyhow, an amazing thing happened once the news was found. Our sisters, regardless of husbands, kids, boyfriends, jobs, started to contact one another, and we realized that the sisterly bonds (regardless of how cliche it sounds), are still there.
It made me think again of how I want to live my life...
